SCIENCE OF SMELL

October 22, 2018

Our sense of smell involves a process of communication between sensory organs, nerves and the brain. The olfactory system is responsible for this process.   The architecture of the nose is fascinating. When you breathe in through the nostrils, the air travels to the olfactory epithelium (a type of tissue). This area holds many chemical receptors which detect odours. These receptors send messages to the olfactory bulbs. The message is then forwarded to the olfactory… Read more

TEDx MELBOURNE: CREATIVE COLLABORATION

UNITED MAKE + PERFUME PLAYGROUND + ARUP

This year Tedx Melbourne commissioned something special…
Prepare to be bathed in light, sound and scent as United Make and a dream team of collaborators including Perfume Playground™ and Arup create a space out of the intangible.

This year’s spotlight is on sight + scent.
Incorporating concepts of change, curiosity, and exploration into the Great Unknown, UDMK use light as material to create an ephemeral space that can be individually and collectively explored.

Perfume Playground™ plant-based scent is infused with Cannabis-Science and has been exclusively designed for people to “focus” once inhaled. This experience got the senses firing and necessary to regain concentration on an action-packed day!

Whilst this scent is inspired by a specific Cannabis strain, it’s made in a lab from aroma-molecules found from alternative sources, contains no cannabinoids and will not result in any hallucinogenic effects.

Designed to help restore energetic balance, its benefits do include elevated mood, restful sleep and stress relief. “Scents can affect state of mind because our sense of smell is located in the same part of our brain that effects emotions, memory and creativity,” “Using biological messengers called terpenes, this fragrance has the ability to affect mood, even at low concentrations.” More than 200 terpenes have been identified in cannabis strains, the same as are found in some other plants and natural extracts.
“Cannabis has a complex aroma from fragrant essential oils secreted alongside cannabinoids like THC and CBD,” “It is the combinations of these oils that often distinguish one cannabis strain from another and makes each blend a unique sensory experience.”

While we create premium perfume blends from 14 different strains of cannabis, it is the SuperLemonHaze variety that made it’s debut with the Australian innovators.

A harmonious entourage of Citrus & Lemon Terpenes

  • Limonene, an aromatic terpene produced in everyday items like fruit rinds.
