Why We Love Yuzu!
As we hear the faint ring of jingle bells increasing in volume, this month’s botanical is seasonally inspired. Still, instead of heading down the traditional Christmas route of Pine or Cinnamon, we’d like you to meet Yuzu!
The unique aroma of Yuzu is captivating, complex and on a citrus scale sits playfully between the scent of Grapefruit and Mandarin. A fruit of East Asian origin, its zest and juice is used to brighten dishes, in the same way one might use Lemon. With roots in Ancient Japanese culture, Yuzu is added to ceremonial hot baths during the Winter Solstice to warm the body and mind and invigorate the skin.
BENEFITS
Yuzu’s refreshing citrus aroma is relaxing for the body but also promotes clarity of mind. Encouraging resilience and strength, it helps protect against stress. We couldn’t think of a better scent to accompany the craziness of Christmas!
Physically, Yuzu is also celebrated for its immune-boosting benefits and respiratory support.
A MODERN PERFUME INGREDIENT
Delightfully unique, Yuzu serves as a long-lasting citrus top note.
Uplifting, bright, strong and zesty, Yuzu isn’t here to mess around, it’s here for only the sunniest of vibes and will ensure you are too. A few commercial scents featuring Yuzu include; Bright by Crystal Versace, Eau de Cartier by Cartier and L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake.
HOW WE USE IT
We love the addition of Yuzu in natural perfume for its lively yet sweet personality. Surprisingly, it blends well with other citrus oils like Lemongrass and Orange (although we’d suggest keeping these to small amounts to not dilute its unique aroma). Magic is made when Yuzu is blended with herbaceous or floral notes. Some of our favourites include; Clary Sage, Chamomile, Geranium, Jasmine, Neroli, Petitgrain, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver or Ylang Ylang.
